Dear all,

My name is Dan Swan and I work for the Centre of Ecology and Hydrology
(Oxford). I am part of the Environmental Genomics Thematic Data Centre
(EGTDC) (http://envgen.nox.ac.uk/) and developer of Bio-Linux
(http://envgen.nox.ac.uk/biolinux.html) a linux 'distribution' geared
towards bioinformatics.

In order to inform and educate CEH groups in Perl and its uses in
bioinformatics we are running a 2 day Perl course on 23/24 June and on
the second day we would like to focus on Bioperl. This course would be
aimed at people with some Perl knowledge, but also some people who had
only be primed on Perl the previous day. We would gear this towards
Linux/Unix and not Windows platform development.

We consider the provision of Bioperl in Bio-Linux an important part of
our core strategy and wish to encourage its use in the CEH as a whole.

Ideally we would like a core developer to give some of the second day
sessions (the full agenda is yet to be decided) and I was wondering if
anyone would be willing to participate with us?

3 members of the EGTDC will be in Hinxton tomorrow and it might be
possible to meet the PI, Dr Dawn Field (dfield at ceh.ac.uk) for further
discussion on this matter, if not then I can be contacted off list about
this.

We think it would be really great to have someone from the team
on-board.

regards,

Dan
