I am the maintainer of EMBOSS for fink. I have patched EMBOSS for fink 
that solves the above problem. Let me know if you want the updated info 
and patch file (for EMBOSS 2.8.0). I will submit them to fink, and 
hopefully they will be available in the tree asap.
