sure it does.
% perl -w -e '
my $a = 1.6e-190;
my $b = 1.8e-300;
if( $a < $b ) {
print "$a is less\n"
} else {
print "$b is less\n"
}'
1.8e-300 is less.
If you are worried about underflow - Math::BigFloat might help.
