You might want to check the SGI website for this but I
remember a year-or-so ago them annoucing that linux would
be their future platform -- that's whey they got heavily
into the linux-MIPS effort.

The SGI hardware is still usable, but you might want to
eyeball the state of linux-MIPS on your system, or the
current offerings from SGI for it.
