How did you manage to get that error?
This works for me:

use Bio::PrimarySeq;
$seq = Bio::PrimarySeq->new
(-seq => 'UABCDEFGHIJKLMN',
-display_id => 'new-id',
-alphabet => 'protein',
-verbose => 2);
$seq->seq('ABCDEFGHIJKLMNU');
