Yi,
You have some options. One is to install all the modules in your own home
directory, and you do this by modifying the commonly used PREFIX value.
Here's a page that describes how this is done :
http://www.iserver.com/support/virtual/perl/mod/install.html
<http://www.iserver.com/support/virtual/perl/mod/install.html>
Another way is to get your system administrator to set you up with root
privileges for installing Perl modules. Typically the sysadmin would use
'sudo' to allow a user to run a specific command, here's a page on sudo :
http://www.courtesan.com/sudo <http://www.courtesan.com/sudo>
The command that the sysadmin would enable would be 'perl -MCPAN -e shell',
and the command that you would run would be 'sudo perl -MCPAN -e shell'. A
third option is also described in that first page above, where you'd do
'perl -MCPAN -e shell' and then you would set the value of PREFIX to be a
location in your home directory.

Subject: [Bioperl-l] installation problem
hello,
I met some problem during installation. Because I don't have root
priviledge, so when I tried to install bioperl on my machine I can not write
to /usr directory so the installation failed.
Is there any solution for this? Otherwise I have to contact my system
administrator to ask him install bio-perl?
Thanks .
Yi
