Bioperlers,
I'd like to call your attention to the proposals for biomolecular
sequence analysis services that have been submitted to the Life
Sciences Research Domain Task Force within the OMG:
http://www.omg.org/library/schedule/Biomolecular_Sequ._Analysis_RFP.htm
(scroll down to the "Initial Submission List")
The objective of this RFP is to solicit proposals for specifications
of services for the analysis of biological macromolecular sequence
data and associated information, including facilities for their
representation, manipulation, and analysis.
Five different groups have submitted specs to be considered for
adoption as standards. I encourage everyone to take a look at these
submissions and to direct any critiques & suggestions to this Bioperl
mailing list and/or me. These documents could have a major impact on
future software tools related to sequence analysis.
The Neomorphic submission incorporates some ideas of Bioperl
developers, but additional ideas & comments are always welcome.
The first evaluations of these initial submissions will be held at
the next OMG meeting in Burlingame, CA, 9-13 Nov 1998. Any comments
you could send in before this date would be much appreciated. The
specs aren't scheduled to be voted on for adoption until the 22 March
1999 meeting, but better to comment sooner than later.
Information about the LSR and the upcoming meeting can be found at:
http://www.omg.org/lsr
Thanks,
Steve
