Well, one symptom was that the 'articleName', provided as the first element 
of the array ref used to construct XMLinputlist in the execute call, was 
being added to the <queryInput> tag, not to the <Simple> tag where it's 
apparently supposed to be. Since Gabriel's service relied on pulling 
articleNames out of <Simples>, to get query data, it thought there was 
never any data in my queries.

We both have our own installations of MOBY, but I downloaded it a few weeks 
before the CSHL MOBY meeting, whereas he downloaded the week afterwards. We 
diffed our two installations, and there were significant differences, but 
no version numbers, so we couldn't really track things down. Once I started 
using his, the problem disappeared. Hence my conclusion that I was merely 
using an out-dated version of the library. I realise that you've been going 
to great pains to maintain interoperability, but perhaps this was a bug in 
an earlier version that got fixed. Clearly you don't keep compatibility 
with bugs, right?

On a somewhat related note, what's the regression-testing situation in MOBY?
