Hi everyone,

It looks like Google Summer of Code 2017 is warming up again, keeping the
same early timeline as last year:
https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/timeline

Will OBF be participating this year? The mentoring organization application
process opens Jan. 19, and the application deadline is Feb. 9.

Timo from the OpenMS project (www.openms.de & see below) has expressed
interest in participating under the OBF umbrella. We also have some solid
project ideas left from last year on our wiki:
https://www.open-bio.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code
https://obf.github.io/GSoC/ideas/

In case the timeline seems too short for OBF to assemble an application, we
can also help our affiliated projects by finding other appropriate umbrella
organizations to partner with for mentoring.

All the best,
Eric
