I'm not sure that this makes a huge amount of difference. Within
mygrid we are largely focused on describing the semantics of
services. As one of the main ways of describing services are in terms
of inputs and outputs, we also need to describe the data sets that
they operate upon, and return.

As far as I can make out from your message you are talking about
describing pipelines, rather than an individual service. We are also
interested in this, as one aspect of mygrid is the generation of
workflows which equate to pipelines as far as I can tell. We would
like to extract good descriptions of a workflow from its component
parts, although its not clear how far this is possible at the moment. 

Or perhaps I am not understanding fully what you wish to achieve.
