Folks,
The GSoC Mentor Summit is an annual "unconference" held by Google in
Silicon Valley after every GSoC. This year, Google is hosting a supersized
GSoC Mentor Summit and Student Reunion on October 23--26. More info here:
https://sites.google.com/site/gsocmentorsummitstudentreunion/home
*Mentors:*
As a GSoC 2014 organization, OBF can send two mentors/admins to the summit
as delegates at Google's expense. If you'd like to attend, let me know.
*Students, mentors, former students/mentors/admins:*
Google is also holding a "lottery" to select another 220 individuals to
attend the event at their own expense (travel & hotel). Full details are in
the e-mail below.
Note that this is a change from Google's earlier announcement; it looks
like the delegate role is for current mentors/admins only, and the lottery
is being held for students and those who were planning to attend on their
own.
Past attendees, like Raoul here, say they're enjoyed the event.
Cheers,
Eric

Subject: [GSoC Mentors Announce] Enter the lottery to attend the Google
Summer of Code Reunion!
To: GSoC Mentors Announce <gsoc-mentors-announce at googlegroups.com>
Hello Google Summer of Code Enthusiasts-
As we mentioned earlier today, the Google Open Source Programs Office is
inviting up to 600 former students, mentors, and org admins to join us at a
three-day unconference in San Jose, California. We hold a similar
conference annually for our current mentors, but this year we’re also
inviting former GSoC students and mentors to join the fun and make it a
GSoC Reunion!
DETAILS
When: October 23-26, 2014
Where: San Jose
Marriott<http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sjcsj-san-jose-marriott/>and
Hilton
San Jose<http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/california/hilton-san-jose-SJCSHHF/index.html>,
CA, USA
Why: The opportunity to meet face-to-face with other FOSS community members
is a valuable experience, as is the time spent discussing ideas in a casual
forum where everyone's voice can be heard. There will also be surprises,
fun events, and a chance to visit the Google campus in Mountain View
Agenda: Visit the Reunion
website<https://sites.google.com/site/gsocmentorsummitstudentreunion/home>
for
more details about the agenda.
How do I attend?: Because we have a limited amount of space available for
this Reunion and can not invite all 14,000 past participants to attend the
Reunion, we have set up a lottery system to choose ~220 guests (the other
~380 guests are Delegates, mostly mentors, chosen by the GSoC 2014
participating orgs, more information about Delegates is available in the
Delegate email that we sent to this list earlier today).* This lottery
system is for GSoC students, mentors and org administrators that
participated in the program anytime over the last 10 years who wish to
attend the Reunion but are not one of their org’s designated Delegates. We
will randomly select names from the lottery pool that will be named our
Lottery Winners. These Lottery Winners will then be able to sign up to
attend the Reunion at their own cost. For more detailed information see the
Reunion website.
* Note: The GSoC 2014 organization administrators will be choosing their 2
Delegates separately. If you have been told by the org admin that you will
be a GSoC 2014 Delegate you do not need to sign up for the lottery.
