FWIW we have been reporting problems with the EMBOSS FTP site for a
while now, for example:
https://www.mail-archive.com/emboss@lists.open-bio.org/msg01418.html.
Please note that that issue is related to being able to maintain the
mirror site, and the inability to perform recursion means that the
working mirror config is more complex than we would really like.
