[Dynamite] question, please help

someone told me they set a 1/4 stick of dynamite outside, drove about 7 blocks and heard it explode. now, i think she's full of hot air as i can't find ANY ANY ANY marks in the grass where it supposedly blew up. 
what would the damage be as far as what the ground near would look like? also, how long after lighting would a 1/4 stick take to ignite???

please answer so i can be more educated when arguing this with this gal.
