[DAS2] Non-genome DAS templates

Cool. This adds functionality that goes beyond the scope of the original
DAS/2 grant. So we'll have to make it clear that the current spec covers
only genome template DAS, but that other templates are possible.

This could be an appropriate area to discuss in the DAS/2 renewal.
