Hello,
My name is Matthew Zip and I would be interested in joining one of the DAS groups as a S/W developer. I have recently completed an undergraduate honours degree in computer science. In addition I have 19 months professional experience developing real-time control systems in C on Unix platforms. I am fluent in C, C++, Java and Perl. As well, I have experience with a variety of networking concepts such as RMI, CORBA, TCP/IP, HTML, have experience with DB2 & MS Access databases, SWING, AWT & Microsoft Visual GUI development and numerous other software elements.
My background in bioinformatics is not so flattering. In fact, other than reading articles in my spare time I really have no background. However, I am enrolled in bio-chemistry and organic chemistry courses and am seriously contemplating doing a Masters degree in this area. From what I have read, bioinformatics, seems interesting, broad and offers great future opportunites. It also is an important field in that it promises to assist in drug-discovery, diseases treatment, gene-therapy, aging and numerous other endeavours. My take out of my volunteer duties would be to acquire background knowledge and experience in bio-informatics.
If there is a project which could make use of my programming skills while accomodating my learning process, please let me know.
