Hi,
I wanted to reach out after reading this page:
https://biopython.org/docs/1.85/Tutorial/chapter_contributing.html ("The
best place to express an interest is on the Biopython mailing lists – just
let us know you are interested in coding and what kind of stuff you want to
work on").
I have two years of professional experience as a Python bioinformatics
engineer. During that time I worked on implementing DNA structure
prediction algorithms, melting temperature calculations with ion
correction, and data management APIs. I have some experience with samtools
and have worked with other common file formats such as .fasta. I actually
like writing unit tests and had a reputation at work for having reliable
code with good test coverage. Outside of this role, I have previous
experience in 3D graphics for visualization and digital signal processing.
I am interested in protein structures and algorithms related to
biochemistry, but I am mostly interested in working on whatever is most
needed right now. I'd love to become a contributor, and would like to be
pointed toward a project where I can demonstrate competence and be helpful.
Please let me know if I can help!
-Megan
