This list (like many others) doesn’t work that way; it just sends your unsubscribe message to the whole list. Instead, you have 2 options:
1. Click the link that appears at the very bottom of every message and unsubscribe via that web page.
2. View the full message headers in your mail program (or in Gmail, click the down arrow next to the Reply button, then “Show Original”) to find the correct address and subject line for unsubscribing:
List-Unsubscribe: <http://mailman.open-bio.org/mailman/options/biopython>, <mailto:biopython-request at mailman.open-bio.org?subject=unsubscribe>
Most mailing lists have both of these features in every message.
