Since you're new to Ubuntu and Biopython, I recommend just using the
versions you've installed already. Python 2.6 and 3.1 will meet your needs,
and the more weird stuff you do to your system, the more likely you are to
have problems later. Just try using the versions you have for a while,
first.

When you upgrade Ubuntu to the latest version (11.04 or 11.10 -- you're on
10.10 right now, I think), both Python versions will be upgraded
automatically.
