[Bioperl-l] bioperl anonymous SVN checkout fails

Checking out the bioperl-live repository ( as suggested in 
http://www.bioperl.org/wiki/Using_Subversion):

svn co svn://code.open-bio.org/bioperl/bioperl-live/trunk bioperl-live

fails with the following error message:

svn: Can't find a temporary directory: Error string not specified yet
