Point is not what it can do interactively, SVG is really important as a web
backend technology rather than on client-side. Think about the posibility of
automatic transformation of biological data in XML (GAME/DAS) by using a
style-sheet into a graphics display.  The transformed data will be also in
XML thereby completely searchable, indexable and can be formatted into any
other type of data on the fly.
