OOOOPS!  the settings for CVS root, at the time of my success, were pointing to
the CVS root at bioperl:

SET CVSROOT=:pserver:cvs@cvs.bioperl.org:/home/repository/bioperl

Sorry for the confusion!  I  put my settings back to "normal" after my success
and then accidentally mailed the wrong settings to the group.
