Check out Don Gilbert's code.  All his sources are available from
http://iubio.bio.indiana.edu/soft/molbio/java/source/
He has a 
    FetchFromEntrez.java 
and a 
    FetchFromSRS.java 
which might be exactly what you are looking for...
