Right - I recognize that this would be useful for your unit testing,  
but frankly I'm not sure what the "normal" use case for this function  
would be.

I agree, being able to pass a filter function (e.g., one that accepts  
the unparsed XML and returns true or false?) would indeed be pretty  
useful.
