Someone added this method, which was basically a copy of new(). I 
renamed it to set_attributes() (which I think is a much more 
intuitive name), added documentation, and made it called by new() 
(i.e., no code duplication).

I'm not sure who wanted to use it (it wasn't called anywhere), but I 
hope that set_attributes () is acceptable ...
