# That looks pretty much exactly like what I did. I hadn't heard of PPM, so I
# downloaded all the modules one by one and followed the readme instructions
# for them. I then reinstalled everything and used the Bundle. The bundle
# was much nicer, but PPM looks like it would have been as easy.

It _is_ very easy. Of course, you may have to wait for a given module
to be packaged for PPM.

I was a bit wary of using the Bundle, since I thought there might be
a chance it might muck with the already installed modules, especially
for the XS modules.

# Any clue why nmake ends so poorly?

None . One of the error codes in nmake.err
(1077	"'%s' : return code '0x%x'") corresponds to the full error message
"NMAKE : fatal error U1077: 'C:\WINNT\system32\cmd.exe' : return code '0xff'"
but that's hardly informative.

Unfortunately, this does not seem to be a general problem with
either nmake or cmd.exe, as the other modules I installed using
nmake (XML::Node and libxml) had no problems whatsoever. Something
in the bioperl makefile, then. Any NT people out there?
