<div dir="ltr">Hi Edgar,<div><br></div><div>You don't need Google summer of code for getting involved. I suggest checking out the code from Github and work through some of the cookbook/tutorial examples and see how you are getting along. Then ideally you could find a project related to your research and see how you can use BioJava for that. I am sure, as you play around with the code base, you will find things to improve. We can discuss here on the mailing lists, or on github if you need any help.</div><div><br></div><div>Andreas</div><div><br></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Fri, Mar 6, 2015 at 10:08 AM, Edgar S. <span><div>I would love to participate. I wasn’t as interested in being paid as in getting a mentor. I’ve been programming just for 8 months and I wondered if this could be enough background to start doing some little begginer-friendly contributions.</div>

<div>I’ve never contributed in any project before, so I don’t know if I just should fork the repo and try things or look the open issues and try to resolve one of them. However I didn’t see any issue where I understand what I should do. That’s why I thought that being mentored could be good for me.</div>

<div>I expect the BioJava team will be discussing any suitable</div>

<div>Also as an Open Source project, there is nothing to stop you</div>
